126th Men’s Open Champion – Will Semler

Will Semler fought off match points against runner-up Tommy Edwards to claim the men's open singles championship at last week's 126th Oregon State Tennis Championship.  Over 40 players participated in the open event. Will won last year's men's open championship as well making him a 2-time winner.

Will graduated from high school in 2024 where he was Oregon High School Athlete of the Year.  The Oregonian was a three-time 6A state champion at Lincoln High School in Portland, just the 13th player in the competitions history to win three-straight titles. The No. 1 player in the state boasts a 12.45 UTR rating and ranked as high as No. 24 in the country.

“He was one tough competitor.” said Wayne Pickard, the tournament co-director. “He fought off match points and prevailed. He kept his composure no matter what the score.”

Will Semler after one year playing tennis for San Diego State, he joins the tennis team at the University of Oregon this fall.

Tommy Edwards, the runner up, played tennis at Century High School and played 4 years at Portland State.  He is the Assistant Tennis Coach at Pacific University
